HOMEWORK 

Thank you for helping your children. Homework will be sent home on Mondays. If there is no school on Mondays, homework will be sent home on Tuesdays.  The children will do their English homework on Monday and Wednesday.  The Spanish homework will be done on Tuesday and Thursday.  If your child is absent over an extended period, please pick up the packet from me, ready on Mondays. We will give your child up to the following Monday to turn it in.

HOMEWORK TIPS: 
  1. Take out the homework packet for the week from the binder and leave it at home. The children do not need to take them to school every day until Friday, when it is time to submit the packet unless they go to after school care and you want them to do their homework there. 

  1. Homework is graded on the following criteria: 
  1. Correct answers 
  1. Neatness 
  1. Timely submission 
  1. Following directions 

  1. Make sure your child writes his/her full (first and last) name on the front of the packet. Please continue practicing with your child how to write their name.  We still have some who says that they are unable to do so. 

  1. Use RED pencil tracing; REGULAR pencil for writing; and CRAYONS for coloring.  Do not use markers for coloring because they bleed and makes the paper look messy. 

Keep the packet stapled, in the same order in which it was sent. 

  1. Timely submission is part of their grade. So please be conscientious in sending your child’s homework at all times. 

For every day a student is late in submitting homework, a half-point will be deducted from the grade. The student will receive a grade of zero if homework is not submitted. We will allot extra time for completion if the student was absent due to illness, family travel, or any other unusual circumstances, on a case by case basis. If, however, after the extra time, the homework is not submitted, the student will receive a grade of zero.  

  1. Thank you so much for helping your child clean up his/her binder by removing finished school work that was sent home.  They are doing well in practicing their organizational skill, something they will need their whole life.

  1. Phonics: blending phonemes, C/V/C words (/ug/ word family) 
Phonemic Awareness: medial short /u/  and long /u/ sound 
Recognize rhyming words 
Count syllables on words of the month 
Count words on sentences.

  • High Frequency Words: like, must, new, no, now

BENCHMARK ADVANCE : UNIT 1: Government and Citizenship: Rules 
Essential question:  “Why do we need rules?”

Writing:

  1. Writer’s Workshop: Sentence structure, capitalization and punctuation marks; sight words – Review Dolch Pre-Primer Words 
  1. Draw and Write – BENCHMARK ADVANCE: Write about “key details”, “school rules”, “ an opinion”, “write a list”, “response to essential question”. 
Spanish 
  1. Reading: BENCHMARK ADELANTE: 
  1. Read the Story:  “Mi Clase Favorita”,  ‘Monos Con Pijama” 
  1. Read stories for April themes. 
  1. Phonics: Identify, sound, syllables – “ct  and cr” 

  1. Writing: 
  1.  BENCHMARK ADELANTE  - “Ya Es La Hora” 

Math 
  1. Chapter 9: Identify and Describe Two-dimensional Shapes

REMINDERS: UPCOMING EVENTS 
  1. MASS, THURSDAY, April 27, Mater Dei High School Chapel 
Please join us for our weekly mass.  Let us worship together as a community. 

  1. MOTHERS DAY CELEBRATION, MAY 4, THURSDAY 
              Please mark this date on your calendar.  We will start the morning with a mass.  Then we will have breakfast and a presentation by each class at the theater.  Our class will present a special song and dance number.  They need to wear blue jeans, plaid shirt short sleeves or rolled long sleeves and black school shoes on this day. 

Please send by Friday, April 28, a picture of you and your child (4x6), no bigger than this size.  We will use it for our Mother’s Day gift for you. Put it in an envelop inside your child’s folder. 




PARENT VOLUNTEERS 
  1. Anytime During the week 
  1.  parents to organize graded work to be sent home.   
We really need help with this task as we have a good amount of papers to be sent home. 

  1. parents to help change our bulletin boards

  1. 2 parents to make copies and put together the homework packets
